From humble beginnings as a Crayola sketch artist and sandbox sculptor, Woodshop Girl Amy Savoie has always had an intense desire to create. As a young adult, Amy earned her degree in the Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD), where she discovered a genuine passion for working with tools as a Jewelry and Metalsmithing major. This love for the tools was compounded when she began working with her father part time as a Carpenter, which quickly blossomed into a full time career in the trades. She spent those years taking every opportunity available to learn and master the skills of the trade, with a keen interest in unconventional methods to create a desired outcome. Now, nearly 15 years later, Amy has taken her unique experiences and skill set and combined them with an entrepreneurial spirit to construct her greatest masterpiece: Woodshop Girl; a niche woodworking company building unique one of a kind furniture and custom products for stairs.
Amy has always loved to share her passion with others, and plans to introduce woodworking classes to her business in the near future. She whole-heartedly believes that once a person learns how to use the tools, there are absolutely no limits to what they can build. She continues to live by her mantra every day, in business and in life: Have Tools, Will Create.
Much of the material for WSG furniture is actually being diverted from a landfill. It is sourced from local hardwood flooring companies where it is standard practice to order anywhere from 15% to 25% more material than is necessary to complete a project.
With over a decade of experience, Amy has developed a system to create durable custom stairs and specialty items to fulfill all project needs.
